Hi everyone! Welcome
to Kent and Alex’s 2013 Appalachian Trail Thru Hike Blog! The purpose of this blog is to keep family,
friends, and possibly even future thru-hikers updated and entertained
(hopefully not too entertained…) as we attempt the 2,185 mile hike from Georgia
to Maine. I hope this blog also keeps Alex and me motivated to keep moving towards Mt. Katahdin during the rougher days out on the trail.
A little accountability can go a long way, right? Let’s hope so - we have a long way to go. I guess this blog really makes things
official, huh? No turning back now.
I understand that some of you may be new to backpacking, and may have never heard of Mt. Katahdin. Some
may have never heard of thru-hikers or even the Appalachian Trail. Well have no fear! In the very next post, I will answer many of
the common questions I have been asked about my upcoming Appalachian
Trail thru hike adventure, as well as some fun facts about the trail. That’s called a hook my friends. Got to get you guys interested enough to keep coming back
for more!
Also very soon, Alex and I are going to be posting all kinds
of good stuff, such as little bios (who we are, why we want to do this), personal
gear lists (wow, do we differ!), and recaps of previous training hikes we have
completed. I've even made some of my own
gear, and you guys are lucky enough to see how I did it right here on this
blog! Hopefully some hammock campers
will pass through and learn from my mistakes.
Our start date, March 16th, is rapidly
approaching. Alex and I have a lot to
cover/get done before then, so stay tuned!
Until then,
Kent
